It’s hard to keep up with the typography conferences this Spring. Next week, after Kerning in Faenza, Italy, you can go East to the border between Europe and Asia to attend this year’s ISType (Istanbul Typography Seminars) – unless you are at the other side of the Atlantic for Typographics. The organisers describe the event as “[a]n international gathering for students, professionals and enthusiasts where ideas and inspiration can be shared and thrived, ISType 2015 invites you to explore the swift interactions between practice, theory and history in the field of typography.” Even though the early bird registration just ended, the event is still dirt cheap, given the impressive speaker line-up and rock-solid workshops. €100 for two days of seminars, and €70 per workshop? That is an unbeatable price. So what are you waiting for? Book a flight to Istanbul and attend this great conference.

After typefaces with round letterforms had been around for over 100 years, it was Volkswagen’s VAG Rounded that paved the way for its descendant to be established as key elements in new corporate designs. The last part of our ‘Sausage Type Trilogy’ introduces some of these custom-made all-round talents that lend smaller companies and large corporations a friendly look.

Among the awarded projects at the European Design Awards were not only typefaces that FontShop offers through our website (Lipa Agate, Alverata). The FontShop website itself won the coveted Gold award in Category 25 Digital Self-Promotion, hot on the heels of our Certificate of Excellence at the TDC Awards!

Kerning 2015 - What lies beneath

I cannot believe how fast time flies once the type conference season hits full force. An e-mail this morning reminded me there’s only three days left to Kerning! This great, friendly conference in the picturesque town of Faenza near Bologna, Italy focuses on web typography. I was honoured to be invited as a speaker for its first edition in 2013. Now in its third year, the organisers again succeeded in gathering an international group of speakers that rivals the line-up of established conferences. If you don’t have any plans for the end of this week and can get away from work for a lovely day of inspiration and information, I would highly recommend snatching one of the very last – and very affordable – tickets before the event sells out.
